Introduction
Larry and Mary Berman are artists living in the Pittsburgh area for the
past 14 years. In that time, they’ve been actively participating and
displaying innovative photography at local art festivals like the Three
Rivers Arts Festival, A Fair in the Park in Mellon Park and the Shadyside Art Festival as well as being a
regular exhibitor at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts at
State College. They’ve also had their work displayed at the Three Rivers
Arts Festival Juried Photography Competition and the Natural World
Photography exhibit at Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
Current Work
Mary and Larry’s latest body of work includes three different styles.
They’ve developed a series of beautiful still lifes using props and
backgrounds that Mary creates and paints. Additionally, Mary has a unique
way of painting the frames to compliment the colors used in the
photographs. Her artistic style combined with Larry’s sense of
photographic lighting and technique makes their art truly different and
memorable. In May they took a trip to photograph the national parks in
Arizona and Southern Utah with a digital camera for a magazine article, and came back with a stunning collection of
images that are also displayed in Mary’s unforgettable frames. Lastly,
Larry has been experimenting with a digital camera that has true infrared
sensitivity and has created a unique style of color infrared. Sample
prints of all three styles of work are included with in the press kit.
Related Projects
Actively participating in art shows for over 28 years, Larry has been
sharing information on his web site (and in numerous art related internet
forums) designed to benefit all people involved in the art show industry
and photography in general. Using the latest web design technology, he
created an online art show jury web site and invited show directors to
experiment with jurying a select group of artists who agreed to let their
jury slides be used for this experiment. Additionally he’s in the process
of writing an extensive article about selling photography at art shows and
has written a letter (enclosed in the press kit) explaining how the
definitions of photography have changed with the improvements in digital
technology. Working with Chris Maher, a fellow photographer and
business partner, Larry and Chris have a web design business and have
built over 100 web sites for artists and craftspeople and co write for
Shutterbug Magazine and it’s digital counterpart, eDigitalPhoto Magazine.
